Will I need building regulations approval? Building regulations approval is not the same as planning permission and you will usually need building regulations approval if you are put up a new building, building a house extension or altering an existing building, (eg. a loft conversion for habitation), if you are installing services or fittings in a building, e.g. washing and sanitary facilities, hot water cylinders, foul water and rainwater drainage or replacement windows.
